Update August 13, 2026

The leak was confirmed on Scott Street Ext.  

Update July 27, 2026

The leak on Buckingham Street was repaired.  Thank you for the patience and understanding while the maintenance crew made the necessary repairs.  

Update July 24, 2026

A main line leak was detected on Buckingham Street.  The repair is scheduled for Monday, July 27, 2026, at 8:30am.  A call blast was sent to all customers that will be affected during the repair.

Update July 15, 2026

The maintenance on the intake at the plant was completed.  Filter 4 was returned to service.  

Update July 14, 2026

The maintenance crew has detected a leak on the recirculating line for the bridge.  The repair is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2026.   Filter 4 is still filtering to waste at this time.  The maintenance crew plans to put Filter 3 out of service next week for maintenance.  This will be the last Filter that will be assessed by the engineer.  

Update July 6, 2026

Filter 4 is out of service.  The maintenance crew is scraping the filter on July 6 & 7, 2026.   The filter is planned to return filter to waste for about a week and return to service when it is around 1 NTU. 

Update June 30, 206 and July 1, 2026

The maintenance crew have located another leak on Spruce Lane and the leak will be repaired on July 1, 2026.  

Operator Update June 16, 2026

Filters 1 and 2 have been scraped; filter 1 was filtered to waste for about a week and returned into service when it was around to a 1 NTU.  Filter 2 was scraped last week and filtered to waste until today.   

The authority is scheduled to repair at least 1 leak tomorrow and potentially 2 if the second leak is confirmed.

Filter 2 maintenance and assessment

June 1, 2026

Filter 2 is out of service for maintenance. The maintenance and assessment
procedure of Filter 2 will take the remainder of the week. Filter 2 “Return to Service” date is expected Friday, June 4 /Monday, June 7.
The maintenance and assessment of filter 2 to include:
 1-2” of media removal (1200ft2)
 Excavation pits (minimum 3): identify location and extent of:
o Mottling
o Hardpan
o Deposition (if any)
o Location and thickness of support media.
o Filter fabric integrity and permeability. (percolation testing)
o Filter profile depth (30 locations)
 Filter to waste: at least one full filter volume and/or NTU < 1.0.
 Media analysis: NO, filter 1 was collected and sampled.

Filter 1 maintenance and assessment:
May 18 through May 23, 2026

Filter 1 was maintained and assessed during the week of May 18, 2026. Media samples were collected and sent to Hawk Mountain Laboratories for analysis. SWCMA & SMA are still awaiting results. A full filter 1 assessment report will be provided upon media analysis results.

Filter 1: Post Maintenance

Production:
SWCMA staff removed the top 1-2” of sand from the filter bed. The top of the filter captures most solids and turbidity from the source water. Over time the filter begins to plug and bind if the solids captured on top of the media are not removed.  Filter 1 production capability was restored once the upper portion of the filter was removed.  Filter 1 production capabilities currently are 64 GPM (permitted rate).

Water Quality (Turbidity):
Following the May 18 maintenance event, Filter 1 was refilled and placed into
service. Production capabilities were immediately restored. Filtered flows from
filter 1 now achieve the design rates of 64+ gpm. Turbidity (clarity of water) readings have slowly improved since Filter 1 was placed into service. Operators expect continued turbidity improvement once adjacent filters are maintained.
Boil Water Advisory: SWCMA remains under a boil water advisory despite the overall conditions of the water system improving. Operators expect to petition the state to remove the boil water advisory following filter 2 maintenance.
Customer Demand: The SWCMA system continues to have unknown leaks. SWCMA should continue to look for and locate water main leaks. System water losses remain elevated.
